Tinderbox Media client Jim Fleeting Guitars has reported that telephone and e-mail enquiries from prospective customers have quintupled in the week following the company’s appearance in the Guardian,

Jim Fleeting of Jim Fleeting Guitars was profiled on the front page of the newspaper’s Work supplement on Saturday 7 February, in a feature about people with “dream careers”. The Guardian commissioned a front page illustration of Jim to accompany the feature.

The luthier has been described by the Yorkshire as “the UK’s most talented and innovative young guitar-maker”, and has also appeared in Guitar and Guitarist magazines.

Based in Ripon city centre, Jim Fleeting Guitars specialises in handmade acoustic guitars, electric guitars and basses. All instruments are built to order, to the highest levels of craftsmanship, with prices beginning at £1,750.

Loyal customers include the folk musician Gordon Giltrap, who invited Jim Fleeting to contribute instruments to a prestigious exhibition of British guitar-making past, present and future. The exhibition opened at the National Centre for Craft and Design in November 2008.

Luthiery (the art of guitar making and repair) is traditionally dominated by American craftsmen, but Jim Fleeting is determined to redress the balance and put the UK – and Yorkshire - on the guitar-building map. He blogs at www.luthiery.co.uk
